OpenAI and ServiceNow Push AI Deeper Into the Work Itself
OpenAI and ServiceNow expand their partnership to embed models and agents across enterprise workflows, from IT tickets to security.
There is a particular kind of friction in enterprise work. You open one tool to read an alert, another to check what changed last night, a third to assign someone, a fourth to log what you did. The thinking is not hard. The moving between systems is. On October 28, 2026, OpenAI and ServiceNow announced an expansion of their partnership aimed squarely at that friction, bringing OpenAI models and agents into ServiceNow products and connecting ServiceNow workflows with ChatGPT and Codex (OpenAI).
The expansion builds on a partnership the two companies announced in January 2026 (OpenAI). What is new is the surface area, and it runs in both directions. A ServiceNow integration will bring business context and workflow actions directly into ChatGPT, so an IT team member can find similar incidents, assess the risk of a change, and update a ServiceNow record without leaving the conversation (OpenAI). ServiceNow's Action Fabric applies existing business rules and permissions, meaning the actions available reflect each organization's own configuration and access controls (OpenAI). ServiceNow is also previewing interactive experiences inside ChatGPT; in one example OpenAI describes, an on-call engineer reviews linked monitoring alerts, recent changes, and affected services, then assigns the right team and works toward a fix within the conversation (OpenAI).
The planned capabilities spread across three areas. In application development, a Codex integration in ServiceNow's AI Workflow Factory will help developers build applications using ServiceNow's business context, while OpenAI models will power Build Agent and Autonomous Engineer (OpenAI). In cybersecurity, a joint solution will combine OpenAI's capabilities with ServiceNow's asset, identity, and business context to help teams investigate vulnerabilities, prioritize risks, and coordinate remediation (OpenAI). And a voice-powered experience in ServiceNow's Super Intelligence Control Tower will let people describe an AI use case aloud, populating assessment fields through follow-up questions (OpenAI).
ServiceNow also plans to give all employees access to ChatGPT Work and Codex, expanding beyond its engineering organization (OpenAI). OpenAI is using ServiceNow workflows in its own operations as well (OpenAI).
The ServiceNow MCP plugin is available in the OpenAI marketplace as of the announcement date, with enhanced capabilities expected by the end of 2026. Voice capabilities are expected in Q1 2027. OpenAI says the security capabilities are expected to enter early access in January 2027, with general availability planned for Q2 2027, and Codex in AI Workflow Factory is expected sometime in 2027 (OpenAI).
All of this comes from OpenAI's own announcement; no independent verification or third-party security assessment of the joint cybersecurity solution is provided. No pricing, licensing terms, or named pilot customers appear in the source. What the announcement does make clear is the direction: AI that meets people inside the systems they already depend on, and systems that reach back into the conversation where the work is happening. Whether that reduces friction or simply relocates it is the question the next year of rollouts will answer.
